Spring Top Week
Made By Rae is one of my favorite blogs. I am so inspired by her energy and her awesome projects! This month she is holding a little contest called Spring Top Week. You can check it out here. Basically all you have to do is make a top, submit it to the contest and pray you win!
Since one of my New Year resolutions was to sew more for me I decided this would be the perfect opportunity. Plus I thought it would be fun to try to create a pattern all by myself. That's right folks, I didn't use a pattern. I figured it out on my own and I have to admit, I'm pretty darn proud of my results. Yeah there are things I would change but I think this is a good first try.
I was inspired by a top at Ann Taylor Loft. Unfortunately I can't find the picture. UGH. I hate that. Basically it looked just like the shirt I made. You'll have to take my word for it.

The fabric is a super soft, light pink, peach-skin that I found on clearance at Walmart. I NEVER find fabric at Walmart but somehow I got lucky and only paid $1.50 per yard. Yummy. The neckline detailing is from JoAnn's.
The front has 4 pleats along the center and the back has one large inverted pleat. My favorite part of the shirt is the neckline detailing. It is black pleated grosgrain ribbon with velvet ribbon sewn on top. The raglan sleeves are gathered with elastic around the bottom.
