Columbus City Guide - Neighborhoods
I know I mentioned before that I lived in German Village when we lived in Columbus. Let me tell you a little more about my old neighborhood and the other neighborhoods in the city.
German Village is a neighborhood just south of downtown. It was settled by German immigrants in the early 19th century. Many of the original houses are there and some of them have been turned into cute little shops and restaurants. I love the feel of this neighborhood. There are tons of brick streets and sidewalks and lots of old trees. GV is centered around a very large park called Schiller Park. Schiller Park is 23 acres and includes a pond with lots of ducks and fish, a baseball diamond, tennis courts, a playground, basketball courts and lots of grass. We lived two blocks from the park and went there daily, sometimes even twice a day. It was awesome. Oh and in the summer they have Shakespeare in the park every Friday night.

Short North is a great place for a long walk. There are lots of art galleries, specialty shops, pubs, restaurants and bakeries. It is located just north of downtown.
Clintonville is on the north side of The Ohio State Campus. This is where you'll find a lot of old Victorian homes, Sew To Speak and Wholly Craft. There are some great organic markets and earth friendly children's shops there too.
Downtown Columbus is mostly a business district with a few restaurants and hotels. It's not a great place to try to get dinner on the weekends, but it's a great place for lunch during the week. We went to the library downtown every week for story time. The library was the most beautiful library and the story time was the best we've ever been to.
I know there are lots of neighborhoods I skipped but these were my favorites. There are also some great suburbs, especially Upper Arlington, Bexley and Worthington.
